One of the most crucial aspects of marketing your business on Facebook through building community is the size of your niche target market. Granted, Facebook offers the best way known to man to connect with people you want to know, but unfortunately, they are making it more difficult for people to add friends and grow their network.
This is most likely due to people who are not providing value, and merely out to spam Facebook users. Good thing that’s not what we’re about. We are just networking with people in order to let them know about our business products and services, and to provide them great content and build community. We don’t deserve the limitations, but they are there, and here’ what I recommend doing about it.
Whatever the reason for Facebook limiting our friends, I’m sure it’s a good one. Here’s what we’re finding:
After adding 20 friends, you will see an error like this:
After adding 10 more (using the captcha), you will see an error like this:
Some days you may only be allowed to add 5 friends, other days you may get to add 20-30. It’s sad to see that spammers have ruined our ability to reach out and connect with more people.
Twitter has a limit too, in that you can only follow 2000 people at first. It’s a rigorous rule and very difficult on new Twitter users, but it’s there to counteract spammers.
I recommend being very careful about the friends that you add to your network, trying to stick with people that you know as much as possible. Thankfully, there are more ways to “skin a cat,” than just Facebook.
